چکیده
Over 90% of the insect damage to cowpea seeds is caused by Callosobruchus maculatus. Although, many chemicals have proven their efficacy against C. maculatus, they adversely affect natural environment. Death non-targeted species which are enemies other pests and development resistance possible. Therefore, current study was conducted determine effect plant leaves Murraya koenigii (“Karapincha”), Pandanus amaryllifolius (“Rampe”), Vitex negundo (“Nika”), Pavetta indica (“Pavatta”) Croton aromaticus (“Wel keppetiya”) on adult mortality, oviposition, progeny Plant were tested in both fresh form powdered form. The mixed with two concentrations followed introduction 5 pairs maculatus adults. maximum minimum oviposition observed when treated leaves. mortality increased 100% combination – P. V. (WPN) leaf powders. This suggests that or powder can be used protect storage.

A set of 14 plant lectins was screened in a binary choice bioassay for inhibitory activity on cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) oviposition. Coating of chickpea seeds (Cicer arietinum L.) with a 0.05% (w/v) solution of plant lectins caused a significant reduction in egg laying. Control experiments with heat inactivated lectin and BSA indicated that the observed deterrent effects are s...

BACKGROUND: Botanicals insecticides has remained the major weapons amongst tropical zones farmers to combat hexapods infestation of stored cowpea seeds in lieu of expensive synthetic chemical insecticides that have toxic effects on our environment. OBJECTIVES: Deterrence of cowpea bruchid oviposition and emergence on seeds treated with Cheese wood, Alstoni...
متن کاملAntagonistic Regulation, Yet Synergistic Defense: Effect of Bergapten and Protease Inhibitor on Development of Cowpea Bruchid Callosobruchus maculatus
The furanocoumarin compound bergapten is a plant secondary metabolite that has anti-insect function. When incorporated into artificial diet, it retarded cowpea bruchid development, decreased fecundity, and caused mortality at a sufficient dose. cDNA microarray analysis indicated that cowpea bruchid altered expression of 543 midgut genes in response to dietary bergapten. Among these bergapten-re...
